MastiGum® - Information and history
Mastic, a resin derived from the mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus), has a rich history dating back to ancient Greece, around the 5th century BCE.
Famous Greek physicians, such as Hippocrates, utilized mastic for its healing properties to treat various health issues, including digestive and respiratory problems, as well as oral infections. For centuries, mastic was a highly valued commodity in the Mediterranean region, and was used not only for medicinal purposes but also as an ingredient in food, cosmetics, and beverages.
It originates from the Greek island of Chios, where it continues to be traditionally cultivated today. This historical and cultural connection is preserved in the modern world through BRIKK MastiGum®.
